iTunes could not back up the iPhone because the iPhone disconnected.

I keep getting this error message when i try to backup my iPhone: "iTunes could not back up the iPhone because the iPhone disconnected."

I already restarted both Mac and iPhone, but does not help.

My phone is connected to the Mac. yet the system says I am disconnected.

Does anyone know how to resolve?

iPhone 6, iOS 8.4

This helped me !!

1) Run a back up (with iTunes, no need iMazing)

2) open Console and click on your iphone name

3) As soon as the backup fails, pause the console, select all and create a txt file.

4) Now in the file txt search for "No operation found for path"

-You will see a line like "'No operation found for path: /var/mobile/Containers/Data/Application/9944C65F-F8E5-4CA5-951B-7B6AF0A40D1D/Documents/File-Name-With-Special-Characters'

-The first bold string is the Unique ID of the rogue APP and the second it the rogue file name.

-Try to identify the file from the type or name by googling and delete it into the app. (for me was a file.gpx)

5) reboot your iphone and make a backup with iTunes. Voilà !

I followed dallalr's solution above, but I was never prompted to choose whether or not to "trust" the computer. I'm behind on my software update, so I hit "Download Only" on that screen, even though I don't have enough room to download it. It didn't start downloading but didn't give an error. In an attempt to try something new, I unchecked the "Ecrypt iPhone backup" option. Before I could even hit another button, it started backing up my phone. It actually had a pop-up window showing that it's backing it up and that it's estimating the time remaining, which hadn't happened before. It's still going, but it seems like it's actually working this time.

I'll also note that my problem was slightly different. After updating iTunes, I had the issue you described above. When I disconnected and reconnected my phone, it would then give a different error. It would tell me my computer didn't have enough storage space. I have like 400 GB free to back up a 32 GB iPhone, so clearly something was wrong. This repeated indefinitely. I tried to restart iTunes, but it wouldn't start back up.

I instead restarted my computer. iTunes then started as normal. My first attempt gave me the same original error (disconnected). I then got the same "out of space" error repeatedly, at which point I ended up here.

Hopefully this works (and works quickly) so I can upgrade to my new (working) phone! Thanks for all the help!

Same issue here with phone 6 and 5 both running 10.3.3. Cannot do a itunes backup (can't perform icloud backup either). Spent last 2 days trying all suggestions and then some. Very frustrating. Just bought new iPhone 7 and need to transfer a lot of data from old phone to new phone and I am stuck and unable to make a backup so I can restore on the new phone. Almost sorry I bought the new phone at this point. This seems to be a very, very, very common problem (as much as some would like to ignore it). Case in point is that several third party software vendors are working on software to deal with this very problem. What is taking apple so long to issue a response to this issue??? HELP US APPLE!

My August 13 post might answer your question because I had the same issue with iMazing after 3 minutes (I think).

I still have been unable to find the file/app which is causing the backup to fail (as I've also mentioned above) so I haven't been able to delete or rename it - but I believe that next week Apple is issuing iOS11 and I'm HOPING that this problem will be fixed...fingers crossed.
